        Mediterranea Ocean Drive

There are few thoroughfares as distinctive as the glamorous strip that hugs the sandy coastline on the southern tip of Miami Beach.? Just as South Beach merges its Art Deco heritage with the sophistication of the Italian Riviera, Mediterranea’s new Ocean Drive series blends subtle, yet striking graphics to create one of our most perfectly balanced series to date. Mediterranea utilizes Dynamic HD Imaging design technology to flawlessly blend the modern look of cement with the delicate veining and coloration from exquisite stones.? The result is a modern look befitting even the most elegant beachfront palazzo.? The series is available in four trend-setting colors:? Beach (Beige), Palm (Walnut), Shell (Taupe/Grey) and Wave (Charcoal).? These tones are in perfect harmony with the finely tuned colors of a tropical beach, where the sun has collaborated with the sea for centuries to create a distinctive color palette only seen in a few places on earth. Ocean Drive is available in three sizes: 12” x 24”, 18”x18” and 13”x13” with matching bullnose trim and 2”x2” mosaics.? This series truly delivers the color and style that define the elite glamour of Miami Beach.? It’s a look you’ll find only from the tile design craftsmen at Mediterranea.

        Lightweight match for large-format tile

In response to green-building construction trends, the expanding demand for products containing recycled content and large-format tile designs, MAPEI is introducing to the market MAPEI Ultralite Mortar Pro, a professional-grade, lightweight, single-component mortar that can be used for medium-bed and nonsag applications as well as for thin-set installations. “Its thixotropic properties make MAPEI Ultralite Mortar Pro an excellent choice for large-format tile installations on floors and walls,” said Brian Pistulka, MAPEI Business Manager for Tile and Stone Installation Systems. “The reduced weight of the mortar also lightens the load for installers when shifting bags around a jobsite.” This polymer-modified mortar is formulated with Easy Glide Technology? for ease of application, a labor-saving plus for installers. MAPEI Ultralite Mortar Pro’s unique Ultralite Technology? provides twice the coverage of a standard thin-set mortar per pound (0,45 kg), providing transportation savings, too. Plus, MAPEI Ultralite Mortar Pro can contribute to LEED points through its more-than-20% recycled content.

        First Installers Pass ACT Certification?

Five of the largest organizations representing tile contractors, installers and manufacturers are pleased to announce that eight industry professionals are the first to successfully pass the ACT certification program.? Advanced Certifications for Tile Installers— ACT—addresses four technically-challenging installation areas of current importance:? Large Format Tile Installation and Substrate Preparation, Mudwork, Shower Pans and Membranes.? A specific certification demonstrates the installer’s skill and knowledge in each of these four segments. The eight professional installers not only passed all four certifications, they did so under the watchful eye of thousands of attendees at Coverings, the leading tile and stone show in the United States.? Because the program was in the developmental phase when the show was held in Atlanta in April, they just recently completed the on-line written test that comprises twenty-five percent of the certification score.

The eight installers with this special honor are: Brent Monroe,? Artcraft Granite Marble &Tile Company: Glendale, Arizona; Tyler Nequist, Welch Marble &Tile: Kent City, Michigan; Keith Tavshanjian, KT Marble & Tile: Oceanside, California; Dan Welch, Welch Marble &Tile: Kent City, Michigan; Gavin Collier,? Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Trainer: Livermore, California; Eric Manzaroli, Artisan Tile, Inc.: Sterling Heights, Michigan; and Terrance Trame,? Trendell Consulting, LLC: Clayton, Michigan

TEC? and Crossville? Create Approved Installation System for Large Format Thin Panels
        October 18th, 2013

Products from TEC? have been endorsed by Crossville for use with its Laminam? by Crossville? line of large thin porcelain panels. Crossville recently launched its line of large porcelain panels for wall and floor applications through an exclusive distributorship with Italian manufacturer Laminam S.p.A. The line features the first-ever large format slab with a thickness of as little as 3 millimeters. TEC? and Crossville have jointly developed Laminam? specific installation guidelines, as the revolutionary panels require different handling and installation techniques than traditional products.

Although large format thin panels have become increasingly popular, successful installation requires specific materials. TEC? offers a variety of setting materials for use with Laminam? by Crossville? – including surface preparation products, mortars, grouts and caulks. “Our goal is to educate contractors on the methods and products that will help them deliver high quality results,” says Tim Bolby, Executive Technical Services Director at Crossville. “Our recommendations, which include select TEC? products, specify the equipment, materials, handling, storage and installation methods to help contractors achieve success.”

As part of the collaboration, H.B. Fuller Construction Products, the manufacturer of TEC? brand products, offers an extended limited warranty* for TEC? bonding systems used with Laminam? by Crossville?.

“ We’re excited to collaborate with Crossville on their large format panel initiative,” says Grant Huffine, Senior Market Manager for H.B. Fuller Construction Products. “The installation system we’ve developed with Crossville? for these innovative products reflects our commitment to expanding design possibilities for both those who imagine spaces and those who build them.”

        Introducing Cityline and Forward
        October 18th, 2013

Flaviker-Pi.Sa was back at Cersaie in Bologna with creative, new introductions. Portland 325, a free interpretation of restored industrial plaster developed in cooperation with Cesena-based firm Studio Archdesign, and Dakota, a wood-effect tile imbued with charm and a pioneering spirit, are the projects that herald next season’s trends. Cityline and Forward, the new complete collections showcased at Cersaie 2013, go beyond the mere reproduction of natural materials and instead reinterpret each individual element through the filter of cutting-edge technology. By drawing inspiration from a range of different materials to create highly eclectic products, these collections offer architects enormous creative freedom. The Cityline collection brings unique and original qualities to any project. Based on observations of iron sheets, the project brings together different contemporary surfaces. The linear graphic appearance emulates a variety of elements such as brushstrokes, unique marble veins and the chemical markings left by corrosion. The collection also features mosaics and decorative inserts, creating a sophisticated yet essential moodboard that fully meets the needs of contemporary architecture. As the name suggests, progress and movement are the concepts underpinning the Forward collection. Inspired by quartzite and slate, the collection captures the essence of these materials, meticulously re-elaborating them to create a pleasing harmony of colours and visual combinations. The result is a diverse and distinctive collection ideal for use in a multitude of living spaces including modern residential, commercial and outdoor applications.

        Three introductions from Ariana
        October 18th, 2013

At Cersaie 2013 Ariana is embarking on a journey inspired by the most sophisticated natural materials, reinvented by ceramic technology in a spirit of renewal and a desire to impress. The Futura collection reinvents the sober appeal of Ceppo di Gré, a unique sedimentary rock extracted from the shores of Lake Iseo. The collection comes in four colours in both silk touch and lightly honed versions. Precious offers a hedonistic new vision and reinvents the ceramic surface concept, elevating it from a mere finishing product to the key element of the spaces in which it is used. The collection is inspired by semiprecious stones and natural marble and is designed to create exclusive and sophisticated ambiences with a strong personality. Inspired by exotic timbers, Bali is a brand new interior design material, an original and innovative proposal that forges a new sense of harmony with nature. As in a patchwork fabric, the patterns and colour combinations are reminiscent of recycled wood and of the banana tree bark typically used in African and Asian handicrafts.
